5 Ways To Stay Motivated As A Blogger

In the photo: The Mug Of Motivation by Katie Abey / To Do List Doodle Pad by The Native State / Notebook by Pastel Elixir / Rainbow Unicorn Notebook by Half Pint Home / Doughnut Ever Give Up Postcard by Just The Beginning-x

Unless you are a blogger, it is hard to explain to someone just how demanding being a blogger actually is. We do a lot of things, right? We have to divide our time between content creating, promoting, researching, learning, supporting, keeping up with our social medias and so on. On top of all that, we need to be constantly thinking ahead and planning the next post, trying to keep our ideas fresh, interesting and original.

There is never a dull moment as a blogger and when we are full of inspiration it is the best thing ever! However, what happens when ideas run dry, enthusiasm fades and we have no idea what to write about next. It can happen to any of us at any time, so if you are feeling like you have lost your blogging spark, here are 5 ways to help you stay motivated and full of new and exciting ideas…

1. Browse Pinterest

The quickest way to get inspired is to get ideas from other bloggers. If you look at Pinterest Group Boards you can see thousands of awesome blog posts, all in one place. Last year, I created a group board called Share Your Blog Posts, which currently has over 30K pins and hundreds of active pinners. Group Boards for bloggers are a fantastic way to get inspired as well as share you latest posts with others – everyone is welcome (feel free to drop me an e-mail if you would like to be join and I’ll invite you).

2. Put Yourself Out There

Teaming up with brands and working on collaborative posts is such an awesome way to create new and exciting content. Jenny from Jenny In Neverland has written a fantastic post on How And Where To Find Blogging Opportunities which covers everything you could possibly need to know. Also, Chloe from Chloe Chats has written such a helpful and detailed post on Tips & Advice On How To Write Up A Pitch To Brands.

It can be disheartening when you don’t get a response, but be persistent, keep applying and putting yourself out there and you never know what exciting e-mail might arrived in your inbox next…

3. Write It Down

I’m such a planner nerd and a pretty notebook can do wonders for keeping me inspired. Recently, I shared my Stationery Essentials For Bloggers to show how I plan, organise and keep up with my blogging life. I find that using a daily to-do list helps me stay on track and motivated. I also keep a couple of notebook nearby to jot down thoughts and ideas whenever inspiration strikes. Nice stationery can be so encouraging.

4. Interact, Support & Engage

Being a blogger can get lonely at times but thankfully there is a fantastic community of supportive people and we can all encourage each other. Sometimes all it takes is a genuine and friendly comment that could give someone a huge motivational boost. Just knowing their post has been read, enjoyed and appreciated could make the world of difference, and it only takes five minutes of your time.

Every Sunday at 9am I host the Sunday Blog Swap on Twitter, an all day thread where you can share your latest blog posts, comment, like and make new friends! Come along and support your fellow bloggers! =)

Other favourites include: Teacup Club (Monday & Thursday at 5pm), Sophie from Glow Steady (Tuesday at 8pm) and Bloggers Tribe (Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 8pm).

5. Have Fun!

Last but not least, to stay motivated you need to enjoy what you do. If you are feeling bored with your blog, spice things up and make some changes. Set yourself a challenge, a project or try something completely new. Why not team up with a blogging friend and do a collab? I’ve had lots of fun with these kinda posts and it’s a great way to bring fresh ideas together.

A few collab ideas: A Pinterest Challenge, A Comfort Zone Challenge, A Subscription Box Review, Inspirational Books, A Product Review, A Stationery Box Swap, A Craft Project and A Seasonal Box Swap.

There are no rules to blogging, you don’t need to be a book blogger to review a book, or a masterchef to bake a cake, or an artist to do something creative. The possibilities are endless and you never know, you might just surprise yourself! Stepping out of our comfort zone is what keeps life interesting.

I hope you enjoyed these tips and suggestions! How do you stay motivated as a blogger? Let me know in the comments – I’d love to hear from you!

Love this! I agree so much more goes into blogging than a lot of people realise, creating content, photography, scheduling social media posts, and so much more. It’s easy to lose motivation sometimes so tips like this are brilliant. I love Pinterest, and I also find reading other blog posts really helps too. Seeing other peoples amazing content and commenting and interacting always spurs me on again. Fabulous post Bexa! xx

These are some great tips! I agree with writing it down. Sometimes when I have a free morning I’ll just take time to write down whatever comes to mind, basically a free write. And I like that you wrote down some collab ideas. I’m never sure where to find things like that so it’s much appreciated 🙂

    • February 5, 2019 / 12:49 pm

Thank you so much Meagan! Writing ideas down always helps, I often worry I’ll forget things if it isn’t on paper. You are very welcome, glad you like the collab ideas! <3 xx

This is such great advice (and such beautiful photographs as always ugh I adore the colours and arrangements you manage they’re stunning). One thing I wish I had more time for with my blog is more non-review posts – I enjoy doing them, but they take so much longer that finding the time and motivation can be hard. I find it helps if I set up the draft in my WordPress posts ready to go, so I can work in there and it’s a constant reminder of what I want to write!

    • February 5, 2019 / 12:56 pm

Thank you so much for the kind comment Claire! That’s such a great tip, I do something similar and I keep my photos in a draft post and hope the words will come later! 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the post lovely <3 xx

  10. February 4, 2019 / 3:46 pm

Oh, I love this, Bexa! You are absolutely right, if you don’t blog then you most probably don’t realise just how much time blogging can take up, whether it’s a full-time role or something that goes alongside the day job. And sometimes it’s all too easy to get demotivated and uninspired, particularly when you look around at some of the fabulous blogs out there that seem so effortlessly and professionally put together. You’ve always been one of the most generous and engaging bloggers so your point about letting someone know that their post has been read, enjoyed and appreciated is spot on. I also love your tips about looking on Pinterest for inspiration, although I do try to limit my time on there as it’s such a wormhole, haha. Fab post and tips, thank you so much for sharing and being such a positive and inspiring blogger 🙂 xx

    • February 5, 2019 / 1:23 pm

Aww! Thank you so much for your sweet and thoughtful words Lisa, your comments are always so positive and encouraging, they really make my day 🙂 I always appreciate you taking the time to engage and support my posts, you leave the kindest comments. He he – I also know what you mean about Pinterest, time just vanishes when I’m happily pinning away, I think I need to limit myself too 😛 <3 xx

Thanks so much Cora! Definitely, new stationery is such a great motivational booster! <3 xx

Thank you so much Susanne! The blogging community is such a positive and motivational place! <3 xx

  12. February 4, 2019 / 5:11 pm

I believe the best way to get the motivation back is to take a break and get back into the fun! And then having fun in general. I do love Pinterest! such a great source of inspo!

    • February 5, 2019 / 1:38 pm

Thanks Corinne! That’s a great tip, taking breaks can be so helpful to come back and feel refreshed. Having fun always sparks enthusiasm too! <3 xx

  13. February 4, 2019 / 5:17 pm

Thank you for linking to my post! I totally agree, explaining to a non-blogger what blogging entails is REALLY difficult and I find the majority just don’t understand. There’s definitely been times where I’ve found my motivation lacking. It’s rare but when it hits, ugh, it’s awful! I find Pinterest really inspiring too, for almost everything! Great post <3

  14. February 4, 2019 / 5:21 pm

Hi Bexa and thank you for this very helpful post. I am in one of those phases where I need a little extra inspiration so your ideas are perfect for me right now. It’s hard for me to participate in chats, etc. because of my work schedule, but I think you have convinced me to invest more time in identifying some potential collaborations. One thing I love about blogging that does keep me going is that you never know what will happen next. Wish me luck!

I actually had to explain what I do a few times this week, and people really don’t get how demanding it is and how challenging. I got really great advice this week from a mentor, it went something like – whenever you get stuck when it comes to content remember this process – learn, do, share. Think about what you learned lately, what you did with and then share about it:) this is a great post with great tips as always.

I definitely love Pinterest for extra inspiration though and have found your group board so great! First of all I genuinely NEED that mug, it’s such a perfect mug to keep on my desk. I love all of these tips, especially the Pinterest one as it definitely helps me out to explore such a creative website when I’m in a bit of a rut for blog ideas. I’m definitely going to check out the posts you’ve linked about getting opportunities as I’m always self conscious that I’m pitching the wrong way or doing something wrong! And I truly feel that supporting others and reading their content is SO important, I couldn’t keep up blogging if it wasn’t for such an amazing and motivating community x

This is a great post! I got really super organised at the very start of the year, but it means because I got a load of things scheduled, I’ve lost the motivation for new posts recently. But reading this is definitely making me feel inspired and definitely going to dig out the notebooks this week! Thank you!

Love your tips, Bexa! I had a browse through Pinterest the other day, and it helped me line up some ideas until April. Also, I’m the same as you – I have to make a daily to do list. It’s amazing how reading someone’s post on how to stay motivated can make you feel motivated! I love your Sunday blog swap but often find myself unable to give it time until later in the day and then it can feel like it is too late. I will overcome that illogical brain fart.

Also just having a read of your stationery essentials which I seem to have missed. Your pictures are always so amazing and your passion for blogging so inspiring.

These are all great tips Bexa! I totally agree about writing things down, whenever I have an idea for a blog post I try to write them down so when I can’t think of what to write I can go back to that for inspiration! Definitely going to check out those posts about pitching to brands too, thanks for sharing them!

Lovely post Bexa! You really don’t think about all that we do as bloggers until you see it all written out like you had in the beginning of this post. I loved your tip of writing it down. I have probably five different notebooks all for blogging that way I always have one with me when I have an idea spark, I also write them down in my phone in case I don’t have one of those notebooks. Scrolling through pinterest is also such a great tip, while many people may have covered a similar topic we all have a different experience with it and have our own story to tell which helps keep the topic fresh and exciting! Thanks for sharing these great tips xx

I find my ideas don’t stop and I need to take a bit of a break every now and then to quieten my mind. If I had more time I could write so much more.

Thanks Jo! I always find having a break is good for me too, otherwise it can get really overwhelming <3 xx

Browsing Pinterest is such a great idea Bexa, and so is putting yourself out there! Just browsing for the kinds of companies you’d like to pitch to could be overwhelming … but in a good way, and maybe that is how you could get blog post ideas! I enjoyed that article written by Jenny and thought it was very comprehensive and thorough, as well as encouraging. I love that mug too! Thank you so much for sharing Bexa <3

Fab tips! I always find that writing blog post ideas help so much, even if it is just in my phone. I am so busy all the time I will forget ideas if I do not write them down. I love Pinterest, I am still figuring out how to use it to my advantages but it is great for inspiration! I don’t know what I would do without comment threads! I wouldn’t have got hardly any of my collabs if I wouldn’t of messaged them first so I 100% encourage that! xx
