6 Ways To Use Social Media To Increase Blog Traffic

Social media is such a fantastic tool to increase your blog traffic and gain a bigger audience. A huge 74% of my views comes from Twitter alone, the rest coming from Pinterest, Instagram and Bloglovin’. Before I share with you my tips,  I want to give an example of how awesome social media can be. Last week, I was contacted on Twitter by the lovely Rachel from Another Station, Another Mile asking if I would be interested in featuring as her Blogger Of The Month. Wow, yes please.

Rachel is a MSc student from Brighton who (in her own words) enjoys writing, watching Netflix, hitting the pub, sticking my nose in a popular science book, eating vegan food, attending a gig, smothering my dog or planning my next adventure. Her first Blogger of the Month featured one of my favourite bloggers Alys – you can read the post here. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to feature as the February’s blogger. You can read the post here. Thanks Rachel!

6 Ways To Use Social Media To Increase Blog Traffic

Join in with Twitter Chats and Comment Threads

This is my number one piece of advice. Twitter chats and comment swaps helps you to engage with so many other bloggers. It’s no coincidence that on the days that I do comment swaps, my page views are the highest of the week. I’ve met so many fab bloggers through these weekly threads. Check out these awesome accounts to find when out when the next swap is: Bloggers Tribe / TeaCupClubCorinne & Kirsty / GRLPOWR / There is also a Sunday Blog Swap on my twitter all day every Sunday.

This is such a handy list of all the Twitter chats every week put together by the lovely Rebecca from Rebecca’s Reviews.

Be active on Instagram

I’m not a huge fan of Instagram, but I still think it is an important social media tool for your blog. You cannot include clickable links in the captions (why?!) so make sure you have your blog linked to your profile. I try and post as often as possible and make sure that I put a picture up that relates to my latest blog on the day it’s posted. Like any social media platform, the more you like and comment on others photos, the more engagement you will receive.

Pinterest Group Boards

I’ve only recently started trying to figure out Pinterest for blogging. Tip #1: Claim your website in Settings. I struggled to do this for a while until I downloaded the WordPress plugin called Insert Headers and Footers which allows you to copy and paste the code into your header and it’s then so easy! You can now see your Analytics and the people you reach which is really helpful.

Tip #2 Join group boards. Another new discovery is the Pinterest group board! This week I have created one for people to share their latest blog posts and increase their engagement. Everyone is welcome to join: https://www.pinterest.co.uk/hellobexa/share-your-blog-posts-3/  Simply follow me on Pinterest and I’ll invite you to the board. Happy pinning!

Create a Bloglovin’ Account

I set up a Bloglovin’ account right from the start and always forget I have one. It’s pretty cool though, as it automatically shares your latest posts and is another great way to reach more people. You really don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to, Bloglovin’ does all the work for you. It also sends me daily e-mails of the latest blog posts which is really useful and allows me to keep up to date with everyone’s blogs.

Use Facebook for Opportunities

I haven’t got a Facebook page for my blog so I use my personal account to check out all the latest blogging opportunities. A few of my faves are UK Blogger Opportunities, Connecting Brands & Bloggers, Blogger Opportunities and Boss Girl Bloggers. There are often forms to fill out to be considered for opportunities which can be quite popular but keep putting yourself out there and you never know!

Add social media links at the end of your blog posts

My final tip may seem quite obvious, however, I only started doing this recently and I think it’s a great way for others to easily find you on all your social medias. You can set up a signature or just copy and paste like I do – it takes no time at all but can make all the difference!

Which social media platform is your favourite? Do you have any tips or advice? I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions!

  5. February 12, 2018 / 5:12 pm

Brilliant advice here, Bexa! I wish I had known about Facebook blogger communities, ones that are just for chat and sharing posts as well as one is designed to connect bloggers with brands, way sooner! I find them so motivating and useful! A huge chunk of my traffic comes from Twitter as well, I really enjoy comment thread especially themed introduce me to so much content that I wouldn’t otherwise have found! As always, this is a super informative post!

    • February 14, 2018 / 7:04 am

Aw thanks so much for your lovely thoughtful comment Abbey 💖. I’ve only recently discovered FB groups and think they are so good for opportunities ☺️. Twitter is such a great place for bloggers too! I’m glad you liked the post 😘 xx

  6. February 12, 2018 / 5:14 pm

Great tips! I try to take part in the comment swaps as much as I can, and the chats too much sometimes there seems like there isn’t enough time! I love the comment swaps though, it’s so interesting finding new blogs you haven’t read before and seeing everyone’s own individual way of writing! Instagram is such a pain though – I don’t know why you can’t add clickable links to the posts?!

    • February 14, 2018 / 7:06 am

I know exactly what you mean! There is so much I wanna get involved with but never enough time 🙈. I do love the Twitter comment swaps, it’s a great way to discover new bloggers and keep up to date with the latest posts. Thank you for your lovely comment Amy! 😘 xx

    February 12, 2018 / 5:15 pm

I love twitter chats, I definitely think a really large portion of my blog traffic comes from twitter! I also find bloglovin really helpful for keeping all my favourite blogs in the one place so I am less likely to miss a post!x

    • February 14, 2018 / 7:07 am

Thanks so much for your lovely comment Zara 💖. Twitter is such an awesome place for bloggers and I love Bloglovin for keeping up to date too ☺️💕 xx

  9. February 12, 2018 / 5:17 pm

Great tips – I think the only thing I don’t really do is pay attention to BlogLovin’ – I have an account but I don’t think I’ve been on it in years I’m honestly not bothered haha and I definitely don’t utilize Pinterest as much as I should. I hear people get LOADS of traffic from Pinterest but I just don’t know how!

    • February 14, 2018 / 7:09 am

Ha ha yes! It’s so easy to forget about Bloglovin as it never needs any updating 😄. I’m still learning Pinterest but I think group boards help a lot. Thank you for your lovely comment Jenny 💖 xx

  10. February 12, 2018 / 5:25 pm

Been looking for more chats to join in with! Might have to check out some of the ones you mentioned in the best!!

    • February 14, 2018 / 7:10 am

Thanks so much Rebecca! 💖Twittter chats are an awesome way to meet other bloggers 💕☺️ xx

  11. February 12, 2018 / 5:29 pm

I actually don’t do as many of these as I thought I would ; I only take part in comment swaps 🙈
I prefer my Facebook to be not linked with my blog though, and I tend to use Instagram for pet pics/occasional book things. I should probably join bloglovin’ though!
    Amy xx

    • February 14, 2018 / 7:13 am

Thank you so much for commenting Amy 💖. I’m not sure anyone can see my posts on the FB groups as they are private groups so there shouldn’t be any links ☺️. Bloglovin is another good place to share your blog! He he, I always post loads of cat pics on my insta 😁💕 xx

  12. February 12, 2018 / 5:29 pm

Some great advice on here! Never thought about putting my social media links into my blog post endings, might give it a try. Oh and that list of all the chats and blog threads is fab, I always lose track on who’s doing which chat every night

Love all of these ideas! I used to take part in so many twitter chats and I noticed such a big difference. I really need to get back into doing them. I’ve also noticed when I’m active on IG I get a lot of traffic from there, I just need to stay active!!

  16. February 12, 2018 / 6:17 pm

This was such a great post filled with some really good advice! I’m still learning how to use bloglovin and Pinterest but twitter is the biggest source of traffic to my blog and it’s because of all the reasons you stated!

Thank you so much Evie! 💖 Twitter is amazing for bloggers and I’m still learning Pinterest too! Glad you enjoyed the post 😘💕 xx

  17. February 12, 2018 / 6:40 pm

Thank so much for an awesome post. I used to do comment threads on facebook and twitter and I occasionally do them. However, I find them to be a lot of drama. What has been a success for me is networking, and commenting on other people’s posts. Although, I might have to get back to the comment threads, but maybe cut them down one or two threads a day.

    • February 14, 2018 / 7:22 am

Thank you so much for your comment Gigi 💖. Wow, 2 or 3 threads a day sounds like hard work 😄. I do 3 a week and it’s all been positive so far 💕. I’m so glad you enjoyed the post 😘 xx

  18. February 12, 2018 / 6:56 pm

Fab post! All the suggestions you made are keys to success 🔑 *DJ Khalid voice* lol but seriously, I agree, twitter drives a lot of my viewers and I’ve been trying to use Pinterest more. But I definitely am bookmarking this so I can come back to those Facebook groups cause I suck trememdously at FB. Thanks for sharing Bex & I do think adding blog link as your signaturing is important. 💕

  22. February 12, 2018 / 9:15 pm

Great post, Bexa. You’re so right about Twitter – I love the comment swaps, I always find new blogs as well as my regular faves. I do need to join in a few more chats too, it’s just finding the time! Instagram is fun, I’m not getting hung up on the numbers, I just like the pictures. FB and Pinterest I haven’t really got the hang of. I post and pin but I don’t think either of them drive traffic in any where near the same way Twitter does. But thank you for inviting me to your new group Pinterest board – fingers crossed! xx

Great post. Instagram and Twitter are my favorites, although the Instagram algorithm is annoying. I’m still trying to get the hang of Pinterest. I would say to definitely use the story feature on Instagram – especially to promote your recent posts and use hashtags in it.

    • February 14, 2018 / 7:37 am

I love watching others insta stories! Maybe I need to make my own just gotta find out how 😄. That’s great advice to use hashtags, I will remember that. Thank you so much for your lovely comment Cheyenne and glad you enjoyed the post 💕☺️ xx
