Gran Canaria Travel Scrapbook

I love keeping my holiday memories alive in various travel scrapbooks. Today, I am going to share with you my Gran Canaria scrapbook and the highlights from the very first holiday Shaun and I went on together. At the time we had only known each other about six weeks but we still decided to book a spontaneous sunny break to this beautiful island in the Canaries. Why wait, hey! Thankfully it was a good trip and 18 months on, we are still together.

So whether you are looking for a romantic couples break or just some fun in the sun with family and friends, Holiday Gems have some fantastic offers right now, go visit the website and book that dream getaway.

Gran Canaria has year round sunshine and there is so much to see and do. This holiday had a good mix of days out, boat trips and just chilling on the beach with a glass (or two+) of sangria. We stayed in the resort of Bahia Feliz, which gave us good access to visit different parts of the island by bus and taxi.

Playa del Ingles is a gorgeous part of the island. It is a lively resort with white sandy beaches and miles and miles of sand dunes. We walked along the sand and it felt like we were in the desert. You can even go camel trekking if you want to have that real desert like experience. On our visit, we enjoyed a few games of mini golf and a leisurely stroll around the town. Such a fun day!

For something a little different, we spent another day in Puerto de Mogán. This is such a picturesque, peaceful little fishing village and I remember we ate a very tasty spaghetti bolognese here. It made me laugh when I asked the waiter if he had wi-fi and he replied with a straight face: ‘No, but I have white fish’. This place was stunning and perfect for those photo opportunities.

Our holiday was in July and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. If you are a spontaneous kinda holiday-goer and you can’t wait until the summer, you can be sure Gran Canaria has sunny weather whenever you arrive. The average temp. in February is 21°C, getting warmer and warmer as the year goes on. Perfect for relaxing on the beach and soaking up some sunshine.

Our most favourite activity was to enjoy a few glasses of sangria on the balcony, playing cards and enjoying the glorious weather. It was such an amazing holiday and always has so many special memories for Shaun and I. We would definitely go back again as it is such an affordable, sunny getaway which isn’t too far to travel from the UK. So I say why wait, go book yourself a week or two on this beautiful island today.

Have you been to Gran Canaria? Do you enjoy exploring or relaxing on the beach? Let me know in the comments!

Card Making Kit by Stampin’ Up

If you have been following my blog recently, you will know I’ve been getting all artsy and crafty. Last week was painting by numbers and scrapbooking, this week is card making. Thanks to the lovely people at Stampin’ Up, I have been sent this awesome card making kit to try called Lot’s Of Happy.

I love the idea of this card making kit, it’s the perfect way to give someone a little bit of happy on any occasion. Even if you are not naturally artistic, you can still do something homemade and creative which always adds that extra special touch. This kit has everything you need, just make sure you have some glue nearby and you are good to go!

The whole kit comes in this cool little box. I’m already thinking of uses for this once I have made all my cards. How perfect would this be for giving a gift in too!

In the all-inclusive card making kit you get: 20 cards, 4 each of 5 designs / 7 photopolymer stamps / clear stamp block / 20 printed card bases and coordinating envelopes / printed, gold foil, white, and vellum die-cut accents / white and gold foil labels / basic black archival stampin’ spot / full-size watercolour pencils in flirty flamingo, lemon lime twist, old olive, and rich razzleberry / lemon lime twist 1/4″ (6.4 mm) ombre ribbon / stampin’ dimensionals.

Gorgeous shades to colour in the flowers.

Cool stamps for every occasion.

In the kit, there is a handy little guide to show you which combinations work best together.

Firstly, the important task of colouring. It’s so easy to add depth to the flowers using the different shades provided.

Ta-da! The greens and pinks look so pretty together.

Next, choose your card, the add the first layer and stick on the flower embellishments.

It’s all about adding layers to make the card stand out. I love how the black and white stripes look against the pinks and greens with a touch of gold.

Of course, Simba wasn’t far away when there was string involved.

I’m really pleased with how this turned out. The stampin’ is pretty straightforward – stamps, ink and stampin’ block are all included.

There are a variety of different card shapes and sizes all with matching envelopes.

I love the cute and happy stamps!

This kit is a must for anyone who loves colouring in, like I do.

When you manage to get the string from your cat, you can use this to add an extra layer and splash of colour.

I love how these cards have such sweet and positive messages.

Here are the five different designs. You can experiment with layers and combinations and see which looks best. To have fun with your own kit, check out the Stampin’ Up Lot’s of Happy card making kit. Pet Portraits by THERAVIOSART

Cats and art are my two favourite things. So when I saw that Ravi, a freelance artist, was looking for bloggers with pets I jumped straight at the chance. Ravi is one of the most loveliest people. We chatted over Facebook, I sent her my favourite picture of Simba & Zazu as kittens and a few days later I received this AMAZING drawing! I was also sent Ravi’s fantastic drawing of a lion (it’s not mine, don’t worry, I only own cats he he).

Ravi is a Leeds based freelance artist with a passion for portraits. She draws both humans (in black and white) and pets. Her work is absolutely incredible, just look at her Etsy shop! I think this could be such a sweet gift idea for a loved one with a fur companion. Or if you want a little present for yourself, this is such a unique and special treat. Check out THERAVIOSART and order yourself the purrrrfect present:

Create Your Own Inspirational Scrapbook

Do you ever feel like you want to create something but have absolutely no idea what? If the answer is yes, then same here. The other day, I was mindlessly flicking through my old magazines waiting for inspiration to jump out at me. And nothing was happening. I was turning the pages hopelessly, feeling indifferent and unenthusiastic. Then suddenly I thought, why not use the magazine itself as inspiration. So I took a pair of scissors, grabbed a scrapbook and started cutting.

It was so much fun as there were absolutely no rules. Just cut (it doesn’t even have to be neat) and stick your clippings wherever you want.

I found inspirational quotes, pictures of food, flowers, cushions, cups of tea, anything and everything went in.

After I had finished with the magazine, I added a Polaroid snap from my holiday in Greece as I thought it fitted in perfectly with the colours.

I wanted to keep the pages bright, positive and uplifting.

Marshmallows, yoga and cakes – just a few of my favourite things.

I added in a few of my cute little cat stickers to decorate the pages.

I used a mini inspirational card from treatbox to give the pages an added bit of positivity.

Ta-da! It’s like having a Pinterest board but without an internet connection. The best bit was that it was so relaxing,  I switched off for an hour or so and just focused on cutting, sticking and creating. All you need is a magazine or two, a pair of scissors and glue and the rest is up to you and your imagination. Have fun!
