Snapshots from the beach: Boscombe to Hengistbury Head

It’s been a while since Shaun and I went on a random adventure, so on a bright sunny Sunday I grabbed my camera and off we went to the train station for a day out. After a false start, where the train decided to split in two at the station without telling us and half went one way and half went the other (we were on the wrong half) we eventually turned back and got on the correct train to Bournemouth.  As we are lucky enough to live only 51 minutes away from the seaside, it would have been a shame not to visit the beach on this glorious day.

We got off the train at Boscombe which is the stop just before Bournemouth, mainly because we were starving a knew a place which did really nice food.

Urban Beach. 23 Argyll Road, Bournemouth, BH5 1EB

Urban Beach has been our favourite place to eat whenever we visit Bournemouth. It’s a chilled out bar/restaurant with a beach/surf vibe. The staff are always so friendly and make us feel extremely welcome. I blogged about our fab experience here in October and today was just as good. As soon as I saw that Sunday Roast was on the menu, I knew exactly what I wanted to order.

I asked if they did vegetarian roast dinners and yes they did! This is the mushroom and asparagus roast with cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire pudding, potatoes (there are also parsnips and carrots hiding in there somewhere). Yum! Shaun went for a similar but meaty version. As always, the food was delicious and we felt ready to go on a little (8 mile) walk along the beach.

Boscombe is the home of the most colourful instagrammable beach huts.

When you get the Boscombe pier you can either turn right towards Bournemouth or head left towards Southbourne. We decided to turn left and walk along the promenade. We didn’t have a plan, we just wanted to a leisurely stroll along the beach and see where we ended up.

It was such a lovely day – we saw a game of beach volleyball, people swimming in the sea, families and friends relaxing outside their beach huts. There is something about the seaside that makes you feel instantly chilled and calm.

This is the classic “Shaun stand there and pretend to take a photo, pose”

If you keep walking along the promenade, eventually you arrive at this very scenic grassy bit. We soon realized we were heading towards Hengistbury Head which according to Google is a ‘headland jutting into the English Channel between Bournemouth and Mudeford in the English county of Dorset, it incorporates many different habitats and supports a wide variety wildlife and rare plant species’.

What would I do without Google hey.

We carried on walking along the very scenic grassy bit until we reached the top of a hill. More Googling tells me that this is grassy plateau of Warren Hill. If you look to the left you can see the bay of Hengistbury Head. If you are walking from Boscombe, these seats are very much needed for a quick rest.

We followed the path which took us right down to the beach huts of Hengistbury Head. These are no ordinary beach huts though, they are like mini homes, equipped with little kitchens, beds, sofas, TVs, outside bbqs, they are pretty cool.

They are located on the beautiful Mudeford Split which has a harbour on one side, a beach on the other and a cafe which sells you a refreshing glass of lime and lemonade for £3.50 a pint.

These were originally fishing huts but now they are a collection of 365 vibrant and colourful beach huts which make up a friendly community by the sea.

I’ve just found out you can even rent these out for a week here if you have a spare £750 – £1,000 lying around.  These must be the world’s most expensive beach huts as one recently went on sale for £300,000 which you could actually buy a house for. Although I gotta say, the views of the harbour are lovely.

After spending a while sitting on the beach, resting our feet after the 4 mile walk from Boscombe. We prepared ourselves for the return journey. Top tip: when you walk a long way, it’s always worth remembering that you gotta walk back.

It was such a warm summery evening though, so we didn’t mind too much.

I hope you enjoyed my snapshots from the beach. My feet have just about recovered now from the mammoth trek. Have you been to Boscombe/Hengistbury Head? Do you prefer relaxing on the beach or walking and exploring? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Pretty Pastel Pins

My enamel pin collection (obsession) started in March this year, when I teamed up with Innabox to share these Cute & Quirky pins. A couple of months later, in May, I blogged about this pretty cool range from Old English Company and most recently I found four more Cool Cute & Colourful Enamel pins from different online shops. I now have a grand total of 17 pins, which has been one of my greatest achievements of 2018, so far. Today, I am going to share with you a selection of pretty pastel pins I have picked up on my travels around the internet.

My first pretty pastel pin is from Laura Talanti, a freelance illustrator and designer, mental health worker, crazy cat lady & cat charity volunteer. Laura has an awesome range of pins including cool cat pins, which I was so tempted to get but I had never seen a cup of tea pin and tea is my life. I also received an extra metal rainbow pin to apologize for a small delay which I thought was such a lovely added touch (and I didn’t even notice the delay to be honest). The next pins I have my eye on in Laura’s shop are The Introvert Club and I’d Rather Be At Home With My Cat – both are absolutely brilliant.

Laura also makes earrings, cards, stickers, badges, magnets, pocket mirrors and patches ranging from the adorable to the motivational. I definitely need more goodies from here! Check out Laura on Twitter and Instagram for her latest updates and offers.

You may have already seen the awesomeness that is Whale & Bird before, as their designs are stocked in places like Paperchase and Scribbler. In fact, I picked up their Crumpet Of Courage postcard a few weeks ago for my Comfort Zone Challenge post. And going further back, Rebecca sent me their brilliant Home Is Where My Cat Is postcard last year when we did the Blogger Christmas Card Swap. Whale & Bird sell humorous, quirky and sometimes rude greetings cards, stationery and gifts from a range of super talented artists. This is the fantastic Triceretops pin by Anna Alekseeva.

Other favourites include the Be The Person Your Cat Thinks You Are and Stay Curious. You can follow Whale & Bird on social media to keep track of their fun and funky designs: Twitter / Instagram / Facebook / Pinterest

I spotted this cute Courage Potion pin on Instagram a few weeks ago and knew I needed it in my collection. My ongoing challenge is to push myself out of my comfort zone, be brave and try new things so this pin is the perfect reminder to that. Who doesn’t need a little bottle of courage every now and then. It’s made by the wonderfully talented Joanne Hawker, a Designer & Illustrator from Somerset who is a lover of stripes, tea, all things yellow, imaginary Frenchies called Frank and denim dungarees. She sounds awesome! Joanne has a whole range of fabulous things from cards, prints, pocket mirrors and of course, enamel pins.

I definitely need to get the Ideas Potion enamel pin to go with my Courage Potion as well as The Tools Of Mass Creation which is super cool. You can check out the latest creations from Joanne on Twitter / Instagram / Facebook / Pinterest

Last but by no means least, this is the perfectly positive Good Vibes pin. This is created by onr. who is Rachel Basinger, a designer, creator, blogger, vlogger and new mama (congrats!) who lives in the sunny South of England. onr. stands for OH NO Rachio! and it all started with Rachel’s love for creating handmade gifts for friends & family. Rachel now stocks fantastic cards, prints, stationery, patches, pins and washi tape (washi tape is another obsession of mine!). Every item is made with a lot of love and is cute and bursting with a positive message.

Other favourites include Be Kind and the Plants & Cats pin. Make sure you follow onr. on social media for more colour and positivity: Twitter / Instagram / Facebook / Pinterest / YouTube

I hope you have enjoyed having a sneak peak at my pretty pastel pins. I’m excited to add these new additions to my ever growing pin collection. Are you a pin lover? Which one is your favourite? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Beauty h Spa Day: Hoburne New Forest

I’ve always thought blogging is awesome, but I think it reached a new level of awesome on Friday. The day before, I answered a last minute #PRRequest on Twitter calling out for a blogger and their bestie to experience a spa day in the New Forest for #NationalBestFriendsDay, I answered it and before I knew it, my mum and I were booked in for a treatment at Beauty h in Hoburne Bashley, New Forest. Wow!

Hoburne Bashley Holiday Park is situated just outside of the glorious New Forest, Hampshire close by to some of the south’s best beaches in Bournemouth. It is about a 30-40 minute drive from Southampton and pretty easy to find. There is so much to see and do, from swimming, exploring nature trails, adventure golf, hot tubs and saunas… but first it was time for some much needed relaxation with Beauty h.

My mum and I felt like celebrities when we arrived at Beauty h. The ladies were so friendly, warm and welcoming, offering us drinks and telling us all about the treatment we were about to receive. We were asked to complete a form and my mum’s answers made me chuckle.

We were given plenty of time to change and get ready for our pamper session. Everything was so luxurious and professional and we knew straight away we were in good hands. I had a peak at the products and saw they used Elemis which I’ve heard only good things about from my beauty blogger friends!

We were treated to a blissful Freestyle Deep Tissue Massage for an hour. This is the ultimate in full body massage as it is tailored entirely to your needs and works to relieve stress and muscle pain. It was a wonderful hour which we didn’t want to end, the oils were super calming and the ladies were experts in knowing exactly which areas needed attention. I felt both relaxed and recharged, my mum even commented that she felt like a totally different person.

You can get a whole range of different treatments here such as massages, body scrubs, facials, waxing, pedicures, manicures, tanning and detoxes. They have special pregnancy massages and pamper day packages too. Check out the full list of Beauty h treatments here.

After the hour of pure bliss, our experience was not over yet as we were welcomed into the relaxation room. One of the ladies brought us a cup of tea each and invited us to relax and chill out for as long as we wanted. We had the whole room to ourselves which was awesome. I’m loving those egg chairs!

My mum chilling out with a cup of tea post massage living her best life on #NationalBestFriendsDay.

You can help yourself to a variety of different teas and coffees whilst you are taking it easy.

Feelin’ refreshed and relaxed and ready for the day (of more relaxing).

Just as we were about to leave, we were both given an Elemis goodie bag! Exciting! Now I was really feeling like a celebrity with my new posh beauty products. I am definitely looking forward to using these, they look amazing and smell gorgeous! Thank you Beauty h!

Beauty h have recently launched their own lunches menu too.  We were kindly gifted food vouchers and went straight on to the cafe to place our orders. I picked the Crispy Crumb Vegetable Burger with baby gem lettuce, red onion, sliced tomato, traditional burger relish and French fries. Yum!

Mum ordered the classic Beer Battered Fish & Chips with garden peas, French fries, lemon and tartar sauce which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Who can say no to more tea and Rocky Road? Not me!

After lunch we went exploring our surroundings, firstly stopping in the amusement arcade for a quick gamble on the 2p machines.

We were impressed at how clean and spotless the facilities were. There is an indoor leisure pool and heated outdoor swimming and paddling pools (mid-May to mid-September). A sauna, steam room and fitness suite as well as an indoor soft play area and outdoor adventure playground.

My mum even had a go on the swing, although I wish I had a video camera as I probably could have got £250 on You’ve Been Framed for this clip.

Oh yes! Who doesn’t love a game of Adventure Golf! There is so much to keep the whole family entertained here, from football and basketball courts, table tennis, pool, Sky Sports, children’s entertainment, free WiFi, nature trails and so much more!

If Adventure Golf has got you feeling adventurous, then you can pick up a map and go exploring the stunning and peaceful New Forest. Don’t be surprised if you see a horse or twenty on your travels.

As there is so much to see and do here, we could have easily spent longer than a day here. This is probably why Hoburne is also a 100-acre Holiday Park with tons of accommodation from the affordable to the luxury.

We were lucky enough to have a tour of one of their gorgeous caravans which just made me wish I could spend longer here staying in this stunning home.

There are seven Hoburne Holiday Parks dotted around in Dorset, Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Cotswold, Hampshire and this one in the New Forest. So whether you want to treat yourself to a spa day with Beauty h or book yourself a relaxing getaway, Hoburne have got you covered. My mum and I had a fantastic day here for #NationalBestFriendsDay and felt super pampered and looked after. Thank you to the wonderful team at Beauty h and all the helpful staff at Hoburne for making our experience such an enjoyable one! <3

To find your nearest Hoburne Holiday Park click here. Don’t forget to book yourself a fabulous Beauty h treatment to kick your holiday off in the most relaxing way! Have you stayed at Hoburne Bashley or been pampered at Beauty h? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Father’s Day Chocolate Pizza

Could there possibly be anything better than pizza? Yes, yes there is. It’s chocolate pizza. As Father’s Day is fast approaching, a chocolate pizza could well be the perfect gift (if your dad likes chocolate, that is). The Gourmet Chocolate Pizza Company are the creators behind this wonderful idea and their range of delicious flavours and toppings are endless! Imagine pizzas with a whole selection of tasty toppings such as salted caramel, honeycomb, strawberries, jelly beans, popping candy, rainbow drops, marshmallow, fruit, nuts, amaretto biscuits and so much more. Yum!

I have been kindly gifted a Father’s Day Chocolate Pizza which looks absolutely amazing. It is made out of Belgian milk chocolate, decorated with milk chocolate curls, red, blue and purple rainbow drop buttons, and milk and white chocolate rice balls. Wow! There is still time to order yours (Thursday 14th June before 2pm is the last order date for Next Day deliveries) so if you haven’t found your dad a gift yet, why not treat him to a delicious Father’s Day Pizza.

All of The Gourmet’s Chocolate Pizzas are handmade by a small team of chocolatiers in Nottingham using the finest ingredients and highest quality toppings. The company was started in 2007 by Helen Ellis and now her hard-working team create 100’s of pizzas everyday so they are definitely experts in their pizza profession.

Every chocolate enthusiast will find a pizza they love whether they are a fan of smooth Belgian chocolate, creamy white chocolate or decadent 70% dark chocolate. The Gourmet Chocolate Pizza company explain that their chocolate is smoother and contains more cocoa. As it’s fine chocolate a small chunk goes a long way in satisfying your chocolate cravings. Sounds amazing!

The pizza arrived super quick in a stylish pizza box and it has taken a lot of will power to resist nibbling on a slice. It’s shelf life is approx. 9 months but I don’t think we need to worry about that on Sunday. You can tell that great pride and attention has gone into making this unique gift as the pizza arrived in perfect condition which is amazing considering it has traveled over 160 miles to arrive at my doorstep!

There is still time to spoil your dad, stepdad, grandad or special father figure in your life with this thoughtful gift. Just click here to pick your perfect pizza!

As this is a Father’s Day post, I thought it would be cool to share with you my chosen cards (I have picked two as I couldn’t decide!). These awesome cards are from Sugar & Sloth. I’ve been following Anita on Instagram since I discovered one of her fantastic pins to add to my collection and the other day these brilliant Father’s Day cards appeared on my feed. It didn’t take long for me to decide I wanted them and before I knew it they were in my basket.

If you are still looking for the perfect card for Sunday, check out Sugar & Sloth for a whole range of fun and funky Father’s Day cards.
