Reeves paint by numbers: a creative way to relax

The last time I did paint by numbers, I was about 10 years old, sitting in my Nan’s kitchen, trying to create something that resembled a Disney character. As an adult, I never gave it a second thought. Well, that is until Reeves contacted me. Reeves are one of the world’s leading creativity and lifestyle brands, they believe creativity isn’t about right or wrong, it is all about expression. Reeves’ ambition is to cater for a broader audience, like me and you. Not just for artists or 10 year olds’ sitting in their grandmas kitchen. They do a HUGE range of products, but being the cat lover I am, I knew what I wanted to try.

I picked the Kitten on Books Paint By Numbers Set – cats and reading are like my favourite things.

Admittedly, I was like woah! so many numbers, I better put my glasses on.

But when I figured out what I had to do, I mixed my first colour and started painting. I quickly relaxed into it.

You don’t need to be an expert painter at all. This was my first time picking up a paint brush in years and it was easier than I thought.

Some colours needed mixing and this was very straightforward. Other colours you just used straight from the pot. Easy.

It was so satisfying to see the picture start to emerge.

I was surprised how similar my picture looked to the picture on the kit. It’s so easy to create the right shades which match the original perfectly.

As you can see, my painting skills are not perfect but that really didn’t matter. This was such a chilled activity.

There are no rules, paint the picture in which ever order you like and use your imagination.

This took me about two evenings to complete and it was time well spent. It was the most relaxing thing I have done in a long time.

Ta-da! I am so impressed with how this turned out!

If you fancy doing something relaxing and creative, check out Reeves Paint By Numbers kits. There are tons to choose from and cost less than £5. Have you tried these before? Let me know your thoughts!

Wow it looks great Bexa, great choice with the cats! Literally like a pro painting, although I can see how that can take a little while to do. Completely agree though that it’s really relaxing and such a good way to unwind without sitting in front of the tele! Lovely little review again xx

This is a great way to relax and unwind, especially if you’re not particularly creative or “arty” and don’t draw or paint free-hand xxx

Oh wow! This looks fantastic and even more fantastic to try! I love painting and I wish more people realized just how calming it is. Just zoning out and making mini strokes waiting to see the beauty of your picture. I think this is a great product from Reeves and I think this is a wonderful review Bex. Lol a lot of numbers but that just means more time relaxing and the result of this BEAUTIFUL piece! 💕☺️😘

Wow, this pattern is so intricate! I worry it might make me more stressed looking at all the small shapes and having to be neat. But I’m sure once I started I’d go into a relaxing trance.

    • February 16, 2018 / 6:53 am

He he, that was my initial reaction too! 😂 That’s true, I soon relaxed into it and felt very calm. Thank you so much for your comment Polly 😘 xx

  17. February 15, 2018 / 9:44 pm

Your post has taken me straight down memory lane, I used to do loads of these paint by numbers kits when I was a child (pity my poor mother, who always had to find somewhere to hang my masterpieces). Strangely enough, Flora got a couple for Christmas, one with sharks and one with horses. She made a start but TBH I think there are rather too many numbers for her so we’ve put them away for a while. I never thought to try them again myself though – I shall have to have a look. Your photos are great, it’s so good to see how your picture emerged. Great post! x

Thanks so much Lisa! 💖 You are so sweet. It’s definitely much harder now than I remember as a child 😄. That’s a great idea trying out Flora’s paint by numbers! It’s such a fun and relaxing activity 😘 xx

  18. February 16, 2018 / 10:13 am

I was so creative as a child, always drawing, painting, making up little plays, sewing – you name it, I did it! However, my creative side doesn’t get to come out as much as it has done in the past nowadays, mainly due to lack of time! A kit like this would be absolutely perfect for me, I think – something really straightforward yet creative – a nice way to get you off your phone and away from the TV in an evening! Your kitty came out so well, and for a kit that costs less than a fiver, that’s a winner!

Aw thanks so much for your lovely comment Abbey! 💕 I was the same as a child, I loved all that too. I am trying to get back into being more creative again ☺️. This was such a fun and relaxing activity. Like you say it’s the perfect way to have a break from the phone and TV. Definitely recommend 😘 xx

I loved paint by numbers! I’ve been wanting to get some for ages now but they’re all so expensive but some of these look quite reasonable!

    • March 16, 2018 / 6:30 am

They are definitely lots of fun and not too expensive either 😍. Thank you for your comment Em 💕😘 xx
