Snapshots From The Seaside: A Day In Bournemouth

The beach isn’t just for the summertime, ya know. If you are looking for a nice little day out in the colder months that won’t break the bank, then hop on the train (or drive, or however you get around) to Bournemouth. We are lucky enough to live just a short journey away from the beach, so on a sunny day at the end of October, I grabbed my camera and Shaun, and off we went to the seaside.

Our favourite thing to do is walk from the train station to the beach, then from the beach all the way along the seafront to Boscombe. We once walked much further to Hengistbury Head, but that’s another story. On this occasion, we took a slightly more leisurely stroll to Boscombe which is about a mile and a half. If you are up for the Hengistbury Head hike – warn your feet they are in for a good five an a half mile walk, and that is just one way!

We stopped for lunch at Urban Beach in Boscombe. If you have never eaten here, go check it out. When you reach the pier take a short walk up the hill, and before you know it you will stumble across this cool surf-style urban looking place. It’s almost traditional now that we both order the Urban Guild burger and triple cooked chips, for no other reason except it is absolutely delicious.

Urban Guild burger:
Chargrilled steak patty (made to our own recipe) artisan bun, baby gem lettuce, spicy mayo, burger relish, smoked streaky bacon, mature Somerset Cheddar, triple cooked chips, house salad.

We return to this place every time we visit Bournemouth/Boscombe and it never disappoints. You can always guarantee tasty, locally sourced food, delivered in a warm, friendly and relaxed environment. It’s a sure way to keep us full for the rest of the day.

Shaun’s favourite beach activity. I’m pretty sure this is a bloke thing.

My favourite thing to do at the beach: I’ve just recently started using a Lumix Bridge Camera and am still learning all the fancy functions. What better opportunity than a day at the seaside to practice taking photographs of shells, shoes and seagulls.

One thing I love about Bournemouth seafront, is the pretty little colourful beach huts. This is like being in a Pinterest photograph, don’t ya think. Heh. I wonder how many bloggers/instagrammers have posed in front of these…

Hope you enjoyed my snapshots from the seaside! There are tons of things to do in Bournemouth, but if you want a cheap, simple and relaxing day out the walk from Bournemouth to Boscombe is a lovely way to spend the afternoon. Plus, who can say no to a bit of sea air and exercise. What is your favourite thing to do in Bournemouth?
